About the Artist

An American Impressionist

The journey is the magic of my art

Kristen Olson - Biography

I paint expressive, impressionist landscapes in a wide range of sizes in oil.  Through the visual language of my brushstrokes, I strive to capture beautiful light and the abstract patterns and shapes of nature. When viewers look at my paintings I want them to feel that they are looking at something that is exceptionally well done, beautiful and makes them feel good.  I put the love and emotions I feel toward the subject into my paintings and guide the viewer through the canvas with light.

Artist statement:

“Each painting begins with inspiration followed by an intent for what I want to express with paint.  Sometimes the intent is simply to capture the essence of the subject.  Other paintings I allow to evolve, like a journey as I work.  During the finishing process,  I focus on my initial inspiration as this is the heart of the painting and often the focus of light.  My goal is to create an impressionistic work of art that emotionally connects the viewer directly to nature, rather than an exacting portrait of the subject.  When painting, I use all of my senses, my memories and years of keen observation.  I'm fascinated by nature's light, color, textures, rhythm and patterns.   I want to share my unique artistic vision with my viewers.  This journey is the magic of my art.”
